Shaking Down Trauma, Dancing Peace

A New Shamanic Workshop by

Rachel E. Mann, PhD

Do you feel stuck in old patterns related to childhood trauma? Are you caught up in ongoing cycles of conflict in your family, place of work or commuity?  Are you disturbed by the violence that seems to permeate our world?   Are you a professional who works with clients and in fields where trauma is an everyday reality? Do you suffer from chronic illness or pain and want to find a new source of healing for body and mind?

Join Rachel Mann at the beautiful Bridge Between the Worlds retreat center in rurual Virginia to shake down our individual and collective trauma and learn how to dance peace in our lives. Using ancient techniques from some of the oldest shamanic cultures on Earth, including the Bushmen of the Kalahari and the Q’ero of the Peruvian Andes, we will transform pain and suffering into peace, laughter, and ecstasy.

During the weekend, we will explore how our bodies and minds reflect patterns of trauma extending back through time in our ancestral lines and in the world as a whole.  We will meditate, make art, work with the forces of fire and earth, and dance to shake off patterns that leave us feeling overwhelmed and depleted.  By the end of the weekend, we will have planted seeds of resilience and joy in our bodies and minds that will leave us available to ecstasy and an enduring peace.

DATES: Friday, January 29, 6-9 p.m. through Sunday, January 31, 2 p.m.

LOCATION: Bridge Between the Worlds, Charlottesville, Virginia

COST:  $275 if you register befote December 1; $325 after December 1; discounts given for students and people with unusual circumstances.

about leigh meredith
Leigh Meredith, Laughter Yoga Leader

Leigh Meredith has been marketing businesses since 1997, where she started her career with GE Financial Assurance as a compliance analyst. She was responsible for creating and marketing insurance forms and putting them online for agents to access. She started a web design business, as well as an e-consignment business, which allowed her to transition from her corporate job to more creative, intuitive marketing work from home. This work has included building websites from start to finish, designing all print media, and creating logos and branding.

Leigh has been called a natural "manifestor" or "magician" by some spiritual practicioners. Since teaching one laughter yoga seminar in 2007, she has been featured by The Daily Progress, c-ville weekly, ECHO, and on WVIR-NBC TV. Leigh was invited to teach 4 marketing seminars at Yogaville during Laughter Yoga Leader Trainings, which received great reviews. She now leads two weekly laughter yoga groups and is scheduled to lead at least three new on-going groups starting in January through Parks & Rec, UVA and JABA. She has led laughter yoga in corporate settings, with non-profit groups, small gatherings, at Lee Park, and at large conferences.

Mindfulness & Creativity:

A Daylong Meditation Retreat

With Jackie Erskine and Jeanne van Gemert Dharma Leaders

Saturday, November 14, 2009

9:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Bringing mindfulness into more aspects of life can be deeply pleasurable and life-enhancing. The practices of mindfulness and creativity easily support each other. Meditation provides a deep capacity for stillness and inquiry which opens us to our intuition, while our innate creativity supports a more embodied, vital meditative awareness.

In this day together, we will enjoy times of silent meditation, creative movement, and meditative art. Making marks on paper (with the non-dominant hand) that relate to the experience of the present moment can anchor and deepen pleasure, richness, timelessness and acceptance. Meditative art and movement are not designed for exhibition or performance, but rather are reflections of the process of awakening.

FEE: $25 (covers space rental, art supplies) Teachings are offered on a “dana” basis. The practice of dana (generosity) in the form of donations is deeply appreciated and supports the continuing availability of the teachings.

Please bring:

  • Sitting cushion or bench (chairs provided)
  • Blanket or yoga mat
  • A notebook or journal; pen or pencil
  • Bag lunch (tea and juice provided)

For information and to register, contact Marylu Barker, email: marylubarker@hotmail.com,

Mayan Calendar
The Mayan Calendar
&
The Transformation of Consciousness

With Glenn Mingo

Glenn Mingo

Sunday, October 11, 2009 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Glenn will introduce an excerpt of Ian Lungold’s 2002 video Welcome to the Evolution. This video is a recording of Ian’s live presentation of Carl Johan Calleman’s groundbreaking explanation of the Maya’s "Blueprint of Creation" from The Mayan Calendar and the Transformation of Consciousness. The Mayan Calendar outlines the Divine Plan from the Big Bang until October 28, 2011. This work gives an exquisite explanation of how creation is unfolding, what the Mayan end date really means and how it will affect us. You will learn why time seems to be speeding up and deeper understanding of current events.

We will discuss the Tzolkin, or personal spiritual calendar and the Tun, or prophetic calendar and compare these calendars with the Gregorian calendar. In the second half we will look at historical events that occurred during similar periods to what we are now experiencing and project possible futures and strategies to optimize our journey in the times ahead.

You will be given your individual Mayan Sun sign so that you will learn your life’s purpose and how you fit into the unfolding of creation. This called the Eight Division Sky place and is the Maya’s explanation of heaven. You will also learn how to determine Mayan Sun signs for others. There will be a discussion and Glenn will answer questions about the calendar. Glenn has studied the Mayan Calendar since 2003 and the transformation of consciousness since 1967.

Tuition-$30 -- For Registration, Directions and Info call Margaretta McIlvaine (Please give your birth date and if you where born before or after sunrise) 434-293-9708 or mcilvaine@bridgebetweentheworlds.org

Let’s Lighten Up!

2 Day Intensive Qi Gong Workshop with Deborah Cameron

Deborah Cameron

August 29th and 30th

Deborah Cameron, from Ontario Canada, is returning to Virginia for 10 days this August, and will be conducting treatments during her visit,as well as  her 2 day intensive Qi Gong workshop, ’Letrsquo;s Lighten Up‘, the 29th and 30th of August. (click here to view a downloadable flyer). She taught ’Let’s Lighten Up‘ in VA in April and had a dynamic group for her workshop, and have had many requests for a return engagement.

Deborah has been instructing Qi Gong for 10 years, and is a student of Master Mantak Chia, originally of China. She has been traveling on the west coast of the states this summer and has conducted 2 workshops thus far in Mt Shasta, and also the San Franscisco Bay area. Deborah has noted that within her reflexology practice, as well as with her travels and teachings this summer that many people are experiencing a feeling of being ’unearthed’. There is a nervousness that people are feeling deep within their core.
Mayan, Indigenous elders are speaking of this time as many of us know, as the period of the great shift. They remind us that this is a time of great hope for our planet, and that the evolution of human consciousness will take huge leaps forward. As a result, our etheric bodies are responding to the increase of solar plasma influx on our planet, and this can cause this feeling of great unrest within our bodies. The elders urge us to get more in touch with our bodies, breath, and connectedness to the earth.

Deborah’s workshop ’Let’s Lighten Up‘, is based on the Taoist practice of ‘Virtuous’ Qi Gong. Our individual vital organs store emotion, specific to that organ. The Lungs for instance store sadness, depression and grief. Through posture, sound and color, again specific to that organ and focusing on the positive virtues, of joy laughter, strength and courage, we alter the vibrational frequency of that lower emotion to a higher pitch, thus changing the cellular memory of the lung to a more positive experience. This practice, involving all of the vital organs, is referred to as the ‘6 healing sounds’, and is a 5000 yr old art.

Day 1  Deborah will teach the cycle of creation, and how each vital organ supports another, mirrored to how the elements of nature support one another. She will teach Qi Gong movements, meditations, 6 healing sounds and Taoist teachings of the the Microcosmic Orbit, which is the 2 channeled energy circuitry within the human body.

Day 2 is focused on the teachings of the endocrine system, and its vital role in the evolution of the raising of human consciousness and the ‘Lightening Up’ of our etheric body, to assist us during times of stress and great change. She teaches her own Golden Bridge Meditation which ignites, through breath and sound the 7 endocrine organs, with special focus on the ’crystal palace’, the pineal.pituitary and hypothalamus, within the central region of the brain.

While in Mt Shasta, Deborah created a CD with most of the content & meditations of the workshop, so that students follow up and practice these powerful techniques.

Deborah is an internationally acclaimed intuitive reflexologist, and applies her Qi Gong knowledge to individual sessions with clients. She is seeing an increase in the sense of uneasiness and stress within the endocrine glands., and vital organs, while treating clients. Through this time of great change and shifts in our lives, it is imperative to learn techniques that further enhance our understandings of the inner world of our human bodies. We need to bring our selves into greater understanding of our breath, our vital organs, endocrine system and also our connection to the earth.

Deborah is also conducting her hour long reflexology sessions while in Charlottesville, and the  cost is $70.00 for an hour long treatment. Please visit her site and connect to her reflexology page to see testimonials and more info on her treatments. Deborah will come to your home to conduct your treatment!

Please visit her site for more info on her workshop, as well as her reflexology sessions!

Heart-Healing Laughter Retreat

With Leigh Meredith & Jon Graznak

Saturday, May 23 at Bridge Between the Worlds

Experience a day of tangible relaxation, forgiveness and cathartic healing.

Learn practical, time tested methods to use your laughter as a tool for exercise, emotional well-being and building vital relationships.

What is Laughter Yoga?

Laughter Yoga is not "traditional" Hatha-style yoga. There are no strenuous postures to master, although you get the same relaxing, centering effect. That’s why this practice is grouped with yoga. If you can laugh, you’ll be able to participate. During laughter yoga classes, we use our laughter not as an emotion, but as exercise to help our brains produce a cocktail of feel-good neurochemicals like endorphins - those are responsible for creating the "runner’s high".

Need a good laugh? You don’t need a punchline.

"Laughter yoga combines laughter with yogic breathing exercises. It is a perfect way to laugh and get exercise at the same time. It approaches laughter as a body exercise, so it is easy to laugh even if you are depressed or in a bad mood. Last year I highlighted laughter yoga on my TV program. I have tried it, and it works."

Oprah Winfrey in The Courier Mail (Jan. 14, 2008, Australia)

About Leigh Meredith About Jon Graznak

Leigh Meredith is a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader through Bharata Wingham in Yogaville and in direct affiliation with Dr. Madan Kataria, present-day Founder of Laughter (Haysa) Yoga. She has led diverse groups in laughter yoga for two years and has practiced laughter yoga as a spiritual path for about the same.

As soon as she investigated laughter yoga, she immediately knew she needed to adopt the practice and help others do the same.

Leigh holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Guilford College. Guilford is a private, co-ed Quaker college in Greensboro, NC. She graduated with honors, was the student representative to the Board of Trustees, and developed the first Fighting Quaker college mascot.

She has traveled most of the Western and Eastern block countries and appreciates the universal language of laughter.

As a survivor of severe depression and anxiety, she has real-life, practical advice to offer those seeking the mood-stabilizing benefits of laughter yoga.

In Charlottesville, her laughter yoga work has been featured in The Daily Progress, ECHO, c-ville weekly,  and WVIR NBC-TV.

Jon Graznak is also a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader through Bharata Wingham in Yogaville and in direct affiliation with Dr. Madan Kataria, present-day Founder of Laughter (Haysa) Yoga. Jon came to laughter yoga after seeing Leigh present at a professional conference he was attending for his “day job” in Substance Abuse Recovery Programming.
Recognizing Haysa as a natural fit in his developing efforts to bring alternative healing to Recovery settings, he began to participate in Charlottesville Laughter Club events, and began leading elsewhere.

Before beginning his path as a healer, Jon enjoyed a diverse background in business and public service working as an owner and manager in both retail and manufacturing businesses, Park Ranger, River Guide, Actor, Stage Magician, Naturalist and general Mad Scientist. He is a board certified Hypnotherapist, certified in Acu-Detox Acupuncture and recently completed a 630 hour course of study at Virginia School of massage. Jon revels in the wonder and curiosity of life, and owns a growing collection of flying monkeys.

What is Heart-Healing Laughter?

One reason we can laugh is because of all of the hurt and stress that can accumulate in our living of day to day life. Laughter is an emotional healer, on an involuntary, biochemical level. At Heart-Healing Laughter, there are no philosophical books to comphrehend nor homework questions to answer. Our simple laughter does the restorative work for us. That’s one reason why laughter yoga heals our hearts - it practiced from a space where reason and logic can’t interfere.

The TTouch Experience

TTouch is a system of gentle, mindful touch originally developed by Linda Tellington-Jones as a part of the Tellington Training Method for horses and other animals.

The animals are not the only ones to benefit from TTouch, though.  Linda has observed that, as people learn and practice these simple, gentle movements on themselves and one another, they realize a newfound sense of well -being and renewal. They experience relief from everyday physical and emotional issues such as headaches, backache, chronic pain, depression, and anxiety. They also discover a means to enhance relationships beyond the constraints of language, finding new ways to nurture one another, and reaching new levels of understanding, appreciation, and empathy.

These observations are supported by a rich legacy of anecdotal evidence; hundreds of letters from people from all over the world describe how TTouch has effectively relieved a vast range of health issues, enhancing personal wellness and quality of life.  This body of evidence has inspired formal research and clinical applications of TTouch in health care and education. Nurses, massage therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and physicians are successfully integrating these techniques into their practices, to manage anxiety, acute and chronic pain, and to support healthcare procedures.  Many healthcare professionals experience much needed relaxation and stress relief for themselves, as well as in their patients.

About Linda Tellington-Jones
Pioneer, teacher, trainer, and author, Linda Tellington-Jones has forged new paths in the understanding and appreciation of the animal/human relationship, and has offered instruction in her gentle and aware approach to animal training for over 30 years.

In 1978 Linda graduated from the first American four-year professional training in the Feldenkrais Method of Movement Education with Israeli physicist Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais at the Humanistic Psychology Institute of San Francisco. Prior to that training, she co-authored a landmark book on equine massage entitled, Massage and Physical Therapy for the Athletic Horse, based on the teachings of her grandfather, William Caywood. She had already been applying this equine massage for 10 years for sport horses when she first adapted the Feldenkrais Method for humans to work with horses and other animals. Building on her experience as a Feldenkrais practitioner, she developed a new form of gentle bodywork that activates cellular function and reminds the body of its potential for perfection. Her remarkable approach honors the mind, body and spirit of all living beings.

For the past five years, Linda has taught a course in TTouch for healthcare professionals in collaboration with Dr. Cecilia Wendler, RN, Ph.D.,CCRN, at the University of Minnesota, and has developed a certification course for professionals in Germany.  She also leads an annual six-day retreat in Hawaii.  It is an honor to have her share TTouch-For-You here in Keswick, VA.

Stepping Into the Unknown
A One-day Workshop of Systemic Constellations

Facilitated by Dee Yoh, CCP, CSCF, Assisted by Maggie McIlvaine

Saturday, April 11, 2009 ~ 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Witness how the power of systemic constellations reveals hidden truths, silent loyalties and alliances that have impact over several generations. See how the family consciousness creates systemic entanglements that hold us back from living life fully. This approach exposes the deeper reasons why disharmonies occur resulting in unexplained emotions, illness and disease. If there is any area if your life you just can’t seem to work through, this is the opportunity to expose the hidden dynamics at work which hold you back. Find out what dynamics need to shift to bring peace into your family and into your relationships.

Some will have the opportunity to view the hidden dynamics by watching representatives for their family members step into the morphogenic field. Insights, from subtle to profound, are gained by coming into deeper contact with this family energy field and enable core adjustments to be made to rebalance the energies within the family for generations past, present and future. Relief may be experienced on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual realms. The facilitator assists to restore balance, dignity, respect and love in a situation that otherwise goes undetected.

Dee Yoh is one of 4 trainers in the US certified by Bert Hellinger in this work. She offers workshops, trainings and supervision worldwide. She is the founder of Core Essence Constellations and offers family and organizational workshops. Living Through the Heart: Embodying Calmness, Compassion, Faith and Surrender.

Directed by Jonathan Goldman.

The Living Through the Heart training was created to meet the needs of people from all walks of life who are experiencing an awakening of their inner being. It is intended for those who understand the necessity of clearing themselves of past emotional, mental, and spiritual issues which have become impediments to the embodiment of their more authentic self. Calmness, compassion, faith and surrender are the qualities expressed by the four levels of the heart. Living through the Heart is an authentic state of being which can be reached, learned and embodied.

  • Embodying Calmness Calmness is a product of grounding and releasing constrictions in the body. When we learn to embody calmness, we can then fully inhabit our "home away from home"....our bodies. This is the beginning of true empowerment.
  • Embodying Compassion As we embody compassion, for ourselves and for others, our view of life organically changes from one of separation to one of unity. Healing is guaranteed.
  • Embodying Faith The antidote to fear is faith and it lives in our bodies. Together we will locate it, develop a new relationship with it and let it become our guide.
  • Exploring Surrender Surrender happens in stages and is a lifelong process. It is the key that unlocks the door to the miracle of a spiritualized life.

The workshop will include the following healing and teaching techniques.

  • Rose Breathing: Facilitates deep opening and brings conscious awareness of higher and lower unconscious material.
  • Bio-Etheric Bodywork: A powerful form of multi-leveled exercises which opens the emotional, mental, and physical blocks and facilitates the experience of spiritual energies.
  • Experiential-Didactic Sessions: Using the Chakra map, a unique and practical method of understanding and assessing the Human Energy System and it’s many levels.
  • Ceremonial Forms: Employing meditation, prayer, and music to facilitate the direct connection with the Divine and the healing of spiritual misalignments.
  • Community Healing Sessions: Powerful group healing sessions that are transforming for both the recipients and for those who serve as healers.

Jonathan Goldman began his career as a practitioner of acupuncture in 1976. He went to Brazil in 1987, where he encountered his own healing, his teachers, and his mediumistic spiritual healership. He lives in Ashland, Oregon, maintaining a practice in Transformational Energy Healing. He leads self-transformational retreats and healership trainings in Canada, the US and Brazil. Jonathan is a teacher who is a student, a healer who is constantly healing himself, and a bridge between spirit and matter.
